Matthew Piggott completed his BSc and PhD at The University of Western Australia (UWA) under Professor Dieter Wege. After postdoctoral stints at The Australian National University (ANU), and Boston College, he was appointed as Lecturer in the Department of Chemistry at the ANU. In 2005 Matthew moved to the School of Chemistry and Biochemistry at UWA, where he is currently Associate Professor. Medicinal chemistry is a core pursuit within the Piggott group, with a current focus on Parkinson’s disease, blood cancers, human African trypanosomiasis, and the illicit substance ‘ecstasy’ as a lead for drug discovery. Other interests include chemical biology, and total synthesis of bioactive natural products and novel polycyclic aromatic compounds.
